Smart Thermostat Manufacturer Recognized as a Leader
In Providing Environmental Solutions
Toronto, October 1, 2009: ecobee, known for its innovative and easy-to-use ecobee Smart Thermostat, today announced it was selected for the 2009 Deloitte Technology Green 15TM Award.
The Deloitte Technology Green 15TM award honors companies creating innovative, important, and economically viable intellectual property in the burgeoning field of green technology. Deloitte Technology Green 15TM companies are judged on technology solutions that deliver both a significant environmental impact and demonstrate a compelling return on investment for their clients.
“This award further validates our message that being green can be easy and economical, “said Stuart Lombard, president and CEO of ecobee. “Being connected to the Internet and the Smart Grid makes the ecobee Smart Thermostat convenient, easier to use and smarter which in turn helps our customers reduce both energy consumption and costs.”
The ecobee Smart Thermostat is a connected device designed for ease of use and energy savings. ecobee’s intelligent algorithms allow consumers to save up to 20 percent on their heating and cooling costs. Internet connectivity allows them the convenience of accessing home settings through a web browser or iPhone, wherever they are.
“The ecobee Smart Thermostat is more than a thermostat – it is designed to connect to the Smart Grid to allow consumers to better manage their electricity consumption around new Time of Use rates,” added Lombard. “Because it is upgradeable over the network, customers can add applications to the device so that their thermostats are never obsolete.”
The following criteria are used to evaluate Deloitte Technology Green 15TM applicants:
• They must develop Canadian-based intellectual property that has the potential to achieve global leadership
• They must deliver solutions that offer a compelling return on investment for customers and encourage widespread commercialization of the technology
• They must create a measurable reduction of their customers’ environmental footprint and energy usage
Deloitte Technology Green 15TM applicants are judged against even more rigorous criteria than other Deloitte Technology Fast 50™ award categories, according to Deloitte.
