Sandvine makes short list for 2nd World Communications Award
Waterloo, Ontario; August 6, 2003 — For the second year running, a select group of industry leaders has shortlisted Sandvine Incorporated for the World Communication Awards (WCA), the premier global technology honour for the telecommunications industry.
Following its Readers’ Choice Award win at Cable-Tec Expo 2004, Sandvine rejoins the WCA’s league table of companies and technologies that have the “potential for far reaching effect” on business or consumer markets. Sandvine was shortlisted in the Best Technology Foresight category, which it won in 2003 for its P2P Policy Management solution
This year judges nominated Sandvine for Worm and Denial-Of-Service Traffic Mitigation, a carrier-grade network platform that allows broadband ISPs to defend their networks against malicious traffic and better protect the broadband experience for subscribers.
“The increasing frequency of Worm attacks on residential service provider networks has made improved broadband security an operational necessity -- something the entire industry has its eyes on this year,” said Tom Donnelly, co-founder and VP marketing and sales, Sandvine Incorporated. “Malicious traffic is on the rise and we are very pleased that WCA judges have noted both its significance and Sandvine’s place as an innovator in the category.”
WCA judges have chosen 49 out of the total 123 entries for this year’s shortlists. Topping the list was the vendor-friendly category, Best Technology Foresight, with 26 entries.
Now in its fifth year, the WCA provides a unique platform to reward and celebrate business excellence within the global telecoms industry. This 'must attend' event is a special occasion in the industry calendar. Each year the key players gather together to network, have fun and recognise innovation and achievement amongst peers - whether that be operators, service providers or carriers from every region of the globe.
The awards presentation and gala dinner will be held at Hilton Park Lane, London UK on 11th October and promises to be one of the most memorable events of the year.
