Sandvine Partners with Bridgewater Systems to Enable Dynamic Control and Management of IP Services in Real-time

Companies integrate two key components of policy-based resource management as defined by the DSL Forum

CHICAGO, Illinois – June 7, 2005 – Sandvine Incorporated, world leader in intelligent broadband management solutions, today announced that it has entered into a partnership agreement with Bridgewater Systems, the leading developer of subscriber-centric policy management software for IP-based services. Sandvine has successfully completed interoperability testing with Bridgewater Systems’ Dynamic Broadband Manager policy management solution.

The partnership enables DSL, cable and broadband wireless service providers to dynamically control and manage broadband IP services in real-time as subscribers access them.

Together, Sandvine and Bridgewater integrate the two key components of policy-based resource management, which is defined by the DSL Forum as policy decision, policy enforcement, and server functionality. In the CableLabs PacketCable™ MultiMedia (PCMM) specification, Sandvine’s PTS 8210 provides application-policy enforcement with Bridgewater’s Dynamic Broadband Manager product providing the policy decision functionality.

Policy-based broadband resource management empowers service providers to:

  • Offer service levels with tiered quality of service (QoS) guarantees
  • Control usage and quality by limiting bandwidth allocated to peer-to-peer and other bandwidth intensive or rogue applications
  • Provide highly scalable bandwidth-on-demand to support short-term, impulse, or trial usage of premium service resources
  • Offer metered services, set monthly bandwidth quotas, enforce thresholds or facilitate service tier upgrades on demand

"Together with Bridgewater we provide an integrated, end-to-end, carrier-class solution that will enable broadband service providers to seamlessly offer differentiated services and continue to enhance their subscribers’ quality of experience,” said Tom Donnelly, excecutive vice president, marketing and sales, Sandvine Incorporated.

“The Sandvine, Bridgewater partnership now means leading broadband service providers around the world have access to a pre-integrated, easily deployable solution enabling them to take advantage of the emerging opportunities in policy-based broadband resource management,” said Tyler Nelson, vice president, business development and marketing, Bridgewater Systems.

QoE is a measure of end-to-end performance that combines reliability, standard quality of service metrics and subjective end-user experiences.
